Linux and Alt+Ctl+Del
Written by RD

Do you have any of your systems running on Linux? Then you should read this article. We know the “Alt+Ctl+Del” in Windows is to lock and unlock the desktop. In linux, it is by default to reboot the system “without warning”!!!

If you have a production system running and someone by mistake connects a keyboard to the system and execute the Alt+Ctl+Del command, the system will reboot and they need not login to the system. Many of the PeopleSoft administrators do not know about it, unless they worked as system administrators.

By default it is set to shutdown with the option –t3 –r now. The setting is in /etc/inittab file as below:

# Trap CTRL-ALT-DELETE
ca::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -t3 -r now

To disable the system to reboot when Alt+Ctl+Del command is executed, comment the line starting with ca:: or replace it with something else which does not execute this shutdown command.

Are you working in Healthcare industry for California Employer?
Written by RD
Saturday, 07 February 2009

ImageIf you happen to work for Healthcare Employer, especially in California, you should read this, if you are not aware of it already. There is a new rule passed, SB 541 and AB 211 which is above the existing HIPAA Privacy Laws that are already in effect. This was signed by the state governor way back in Sep 2008, but this is effective from Jan 1st 2009. There is high probability that the other states to follow the suit soon.

 SB 541 and AB 211 were passed in the wake of high-profile privacy breaches at California hospitals. An analysis of SB 541 by the Senate Health Committee cited a 2008 finding by the California Department of Public Health ("CDPH") that UCLA Medical Center employees had accessed hundreds of patients' medical records without authorization, including the records of celebrities such as Farrah Fawcett, Tom Cruise, and Britney Spears. The CDPH also reported that hospitals commonly use patients' information for fundraising purposes without their express permission. The bills are intended in part to clarify that unauthorized access such as "snooping" or other internal misuse of patient records violates state law.

PeopleSoft & JD Edwards Customer Connect is to be replaced by OracleMetaLink3
Written by RD
Wednesday, 22 October 2008

ImageAccording to the recent email from Oracle and the information on the PeopleSoft customer connect website, the existing “customer connect” is going to be replaced by the MetaLink3 scheduled during November 7-9, 2008.

Oracle is going to use Siebel CRM 8.0 for their Customer Support Management (CRM) System. This is indirectly saying that the Siebel CRM is better than PeopleSoft CRM and Oracle Apps CRM .   That is ok as they have to select one from the existing CRM tools.

PeopleSoft CRM has chat service. Does the Siebel CRM have chat service? If it has or not, one thing is for sure that they have not mentioned anything about it anywhere in providing it to “PeopleSoft Customers”.

Once you login, the logo says, “My Oracle Support” and “Formerly MetaLink” and then why name url as https://metalink3.oracle.com? Are they going to change the url later?
